DC Thomson to launch weekly news digest magazine for Scotland called The Stooshie

By Oliver Jones

DC Thomson is launching a new weekly news magazine for Scotland called The Stooshie.

The first edition will be available for free on Friday, 16 May, after that it will be available for £2.50 a week.

The Stooshie will give readers a round up of what has happened in Scotland over the past week with a mixture of news and comment.

There will be a regular weekly column from comedian and BBC Scotland presenter Fred MacAulay

Other regular features will include:

  • 'Seven by Seven', which will answer seven key questions on topical issues
  • The Main Event', which will turn the week's biggest stories into readable bitesized chunks and
  • 'Around Scotland' featuring quirky stories from Lerkwick to Lockerbie as well as a run down of the week's big sporting events and political stories.

It will also feature coverage of arts, food and drink, books, travel and property.

Editor-in-chief Richard Neville said: "This year is going to be an extraordinary news year for Scotland.  The Stooshie’s editorial team will work hard to bring readers the week’s top stories drawing on a range of coverage from the country’s newspapers, magazines and leading websites.

"The Stooshie taps into the Scottish appetite for debate and presents readers with a succinct summary of the week’s top stories. It gives readers an easily digestible taste of what is causing a ‘Stooshie’ in Scotland.”

Ellis Watson, chief executive at DC Thomson publising, said: "Whilst I am excited about the idea and the initiative, I am really excited about the timing; with the vote for independence, Commonwealth Games, Ryder Cup and all the other extraordinary and dynamic events going on right now, there has never been a better time for The Stooshie.”

The news magazine will comprise 48 pages.  Three full time editorial staff as well as three contributors will work at The Stooshie.
