Candis makes charity handout to Children’s Hospices

The charity Children’s Hospices UK is to benefit from a £200,000 handout after being named by Candis magazine as one of its charity partners.

Subscription-only monthly Candis gives 10 per cent of its sales income to charity. Its other charities are Marie Curie Cancer Care, Bliss – the premature baby charity – and Tommy’s.

Candis magazine was launched in 1962 by accountant Joseph Douglas to raise money for cancer research, after he lost his son to the disease. So far it has given £51m to health charities.

Barbara Gelb, chief executive of Children’s Hospices UK, said: “The support of Candis and its members will enable children’s hospice services to continue to help children and young people who are not expected to reach adulthood and their families deal with the emotional and physical challenges they face and make the most of life.’

Candis editor Debbie Attewell said: ‘Heart-tugging, yet uplifting stories from children’s hospices across the UK will now feature regularly in the charity news section of the magazine.”

Candis is one of the top 10 selling women’s monthlies with an ABC figure of 296,103.
