Former London mayor Boris Johnson has won The Spectator’s £1,000 competition to compose an obscene limerick featuring Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The competiton mocks Turkey’s draconian laws curbing criticism of the president. And it follows a German comedian being prosecuted for reciting a rude poem about Erdogan on a late night comedy programme.
This week a Turkish journalist was jailed for 20 months and deprived of the custody of her children after publishing a video of a court case related to allegations of illegal arms shipments to Syria.
Johnson’s entry for the competition came via an inteview with Swiss weekly magazine Die Weltwoche.
There was a young fellow from Ankara
Who was a terrific wankerer
Till he sowed his wild oats
With the help of a goat
But he didn’t even stop to thankera.
