The Press Association has undergone a major shake-up of its senior editorial staff as it seeks to further integrate its newswire, picture and video services.
Editor-in-chief Tony Watson has been made managing director and according to a company statement is tasked with ‘maximising opportunities in digital markets”.
Watson, who was inducted into the Press Gazette regional press Hall of Fame for his 13 years at the Yorkshire Post, has been with PA since 2003.
Jonathan Grun remains editor of PA, but will have a ‘wider, strategic brief’in ensuring the agency ‘meets the changing requirements of media customers”.
Grun, who joined PA as a reporter in 1979, retains overall responsibility for the quality, values and reputation of the PA wire.
Multimedia editor John Angeli, who joined PA from the BBC in 2006, takes the new role of head of content, responsible ‘overseeing the integration of content across text, photos, video and graphics”. There will be no new multimedia editor post at PA.
Deputy editor Teilo Colley has been promoted to editor of the newswire. Colley joined the Press Association as a reporter and has also worked as night editor.
Jim Grice is PA’s new editor of video, responsible for video newsgathering and production.
Emily Shelley is appointed to the new post of editor, entertainment, with responsibility for PA showbiz department’s on and offline features and news. Shelley joined PA in 1999 as a news trainee.
