New paedophile mix-up for H from Steps as Google News publishes wrong picture next to CBS story

By Dominic Ponsford

Pop star Ian 'H' Watkins of Steps fame has again been wrongly linked by a news organisation to convicted paedophile Ian Watkins of the Lostprophets.
Yesterday he received an apology at the High Court from US company E! Entertainment after the site E! Online wrongly used a picture of 'H' to illustrate a story about the conviction of Lostphrophets frontman Watkins.
But last night, the singer tweeted his anger after his photograph wrongly appeared next to a report about the sentencing of other Ian Watkins.
"H" posted a screen-grab from Google showing a CBS News story about the sentencing of his namesake alongside his photo, with a caption from BBC News.
He said on Twitter: "SORT THIS OUT @CBSNews @google !!!! I am very upset … Again !!!"
The error appears to be the fault of Google News which matched a CBS report about sentencing of Ian Watkins with a BBC picture of the Steps singer.
A court yesterday heard Watkins had already been "receiving abuse as a result of people confusing the two Ian Watkins" before the initial error over the photograph was made on 27 November.
Former Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins was jailed for 35 years at Cardiff Crown Court on Tuesday for a string of child sex offences.
Last month Irish Senator Thomas Byrne secured an injunction against Google after wrongly used his picture in an online profile of a convicted fraudster with the same name.

A Google spokesperson said: "For some specific searches Ian H Watkins' picture is appearing in our results because he is relevant to the story having received a court apology. We are looking into the issue he raises."
