Multimedia foreign correspondent Ben Hammersley is covering this week’s Pakistani elections for web portal MSN UK on an experimental news blog.
Hammersley will report for The Frontline Blog, a new section on the Microsoft-owned news portal which features his photos, videos and text.
MSN will assess the success of Hammersley’s coverage from Pakistan before deciding whether to commission further packages using the blog format.
‘Ben is the right person in the right place to use the Internet to tell the story of the Pakistan elections and show our readers why they should care,’said MSN UK executive producer Peter Bale.
‘We have an opportunity to make this story relevant to a new generation of reader and to use a combination of classic reporting, images, video and maps to bring it to life in a meaningful way.”
Last year, Hammersley covered the Turkish election as part of a similar multimedia reporting experiment for the BBC. He has also reported from the Philippines for a blog run by the Frontline Club in London.
Hammersley has also worked for The Times and The Guardian.
