Trinity Mirror has promoted Malcolm Coles to the new job of general manager Mirror Online and recruited Martin Belam to the job of editor, new formats.
Both Coles (picture above from his Twitter profile) and Belam worked on the launches last year of humour website UsVsTh3m and data website Ampp3d for Trinity Mirror. UsVsTh3m is said to attract some 7m unique browsers a month.
Belam has previously worked in digital roles for the BBC and The Guardian.
Coles is "tasked with significantly growing the Mirror’s digital audience this year", Trinity Mirror said.
In other changes, Steve Anglesey is now head of digital business development and Dan Silver becomes Mirror Online’s head of sport.
Mirror editor in chief Lloyd Embley said: "Our digital audience has grown exceptionally well over the last year. We need to ensure that this growth accelerates even further during 2014. Malcolm has a rare skill set that combines a background in editorial and digital product development which makes him the ideal person for this task.
“I would also like to congratulate Steve and Dan on their new roles which are both crucial to our digital development.”
Yesterday, Trinity Mirror announced the closure of The People's new Buzzfeed-style website after just under three months. Sue Douglas, who was behind the site and was also in charge of Sunday brands, is understand to have left Trinity Mirror as well as four other people in her team.
