Fighting for quality news media in the digital age.

Vice News boss ‘chuffed’ to be airing weekly news programme on ‘gold standard’ BBC

By Freddy Mayhew

The BBC will air a weekly news programme from Vice News starting this weekend.

Vice News This Week will round-up coverage from half-hour mid-week bulletin Vice News Tonight, which airs on Vice Media and HBO in the US, and will now run every weekend on BBC World News.

World News, part of BBC Global News,  is the corporation’s commercially-funded 24-hour English news platform, available worldwide in more than 454m households and 3m hotel rooms.

Vice News Tonight, which launched in the UK in November 2016, has broadcast “a series of hard-hitting, original reports across a breadth of global and domestic issues”, said a spokesperson.

Jim Egan, chief executive of BBC Global News, said Vice News This Week would “complement” its own international coverage and “give our viewers a unique perspective on issues in the United States and around the world”.

Josh Tyrangiel, executive vice president of Vice News, said: “We’re chuffed – I think I used that right – to be partnering with BBC Global News to bring our Peabody and Emmy-winning journalism to hundreds of millions of homes around the globe.

“The BBC is the gold standard, and Vice News is truly honored to be part of its offering.”
