BBC‘s deputy director of news, Adrian Van Klaveren, has been appointed controller of BBC Five Live.
Van Klaveren, who is also controller of news production, succeeds former Five Live controller Bob Shennan, who keft the corporation in December 2007 to join Channel 4 Radio.
Van Klaveren has also been head of BBC newsgathering and before that he was head of local programmes for BBC West Midlands based in Birmingham. He will now be charged with overseeing Five Live’s move to Salford, due to complete by 2011.
He said:”Getting the chance to run my favourite radio station is my dream job. Radio 5 Live has a unique tone and character and a very special relationship with its audience. I want to build on that passion for sport and commitment to live news. I’m really excited about leading the station to its new home in Salford.”
