Sky News to close US version of its website

By Freddy Mayhew

Sky News is closing the US version of its website.

A spokesman said the team’s focus on serving core UK readers means it “can no longer support a separate website to serve an American domestic audience”.

Press Gazette understands that three freelances worked on the American version of the website, two in the US and one in the UK. The site was essentially the same as the UK version, but would push content focusing on the USA to the top of the page if a visitor had an American IP address.

A Sky News spokesman said: “We will of course continue to cover all the big stories from the United States – not least the race for the White House this year – and other stories from America will still feature prominently on our website and apps.”
