Channel 4’s news output has been safeguarded for another decade under the terms of its new broadcasting licence which starts in 2015.
Ofcom has said that existing Channel 4 public service broadcasting commitments for news and current affairs will remain in place. This means that quota for 208 hours peak time news and current affairs coverage a year will continue.
It has however suggested that commitments for Channel 4 to commission programmes for schools and programmes outside England may be reduced.

The news comes as Ofcom has proposed allowing ITV to cut its regional news programming by a third.
