NME launches TV channel

By Press Gazette

IPC Ignite and CSC Media Group are preparing to launch NME TV, a satellite television brand extension to IPC’s weekly music magazine.

The music channel, which is to launch on 23 November on Sky Digital 377, will include a music news service.

The channel will also feature charts, music videos, exclusive interviews and footage from tours and events such the NME Awards.

It will be cross-promoted with the magazine and NME.com, but advertising will be dealt with by TV airtime sales and sponsorship house Dolphin TV.

The partnership between IPC and CSC (formerly Chart Shows Channels) has been led by NME publishing director Paul Cheal.

Cheal said: “Launching a linear television channel is a major new development for the UK’s leading alternative music brand.

“While NME.com continues to rack up the awards, and the print brand continues to set new standards in content and marketing, NME TV will add an important new strand of content to our existing platforms.”

Earlier this year, IPC’s weekly the lads’ magazine, Nuts, launched a televisiont channel on freeview, covering essential topics of entertainment for men such as sport, gadgets, cars, music, comedy and news.
