The BBC is set to appoint a permanent head for its College of Journalism, after senior BBC journalist Jonathan Baker announced he is leaving the broadcaster in the coming weeks.
Baker was the BBC's head of newsgathering for four years before becoming head of the BBC College of Journalism in 2010, in charge of training all of the corporation's 5,500 journalists.
He temporarily worked at Newsnight after it came under fire for dropping a report into the late DJ Jimmy Savile, and since last August has provided support for the news and current affairs director James Harding.
Baker is a former editor of Radio 5Live news, the BBC radio newsroom and all three of the broadcaster's flagship TV news bulletins at 1pm, 6pm and 10pm.
BBC Academy director Anne Morrison told in-house news site Ariel: "It's testament to his experience and professionalism that he has been much needed in News during the interregnum between directors and during James Harding's first few months in post. He will be greatly missed and I am hugely grateful to him."
Mark Wray continues as acting head of the College of Journalism until a successor is confirmed.
