Jonathan Levy has been appointed head of news gathering at Sky News, replacing Simon Cole who returns to the newsdesk.
Levy joined Sky News in 2002 from NBC London and headed its political operations for the past six years, where he was a key figure in Sky's negotiation team to broadcast the leaders' debates
Sky News described his new role as 'one of the most important within the newsroom", taking over responsibility for the news agenda in the UK and 115 countries around the world.
He will work alongside head of Sky News John Ryley and deputy jead of Sky News and executive director and Chris Birkett,
'Jonathan is a first rate journalist and his role is absolutely vital within the organisation,'said Ryley.
'This year has been one of the most successful in Sky News' history – and I know Jonathan will work tirelessly to ensure that this continues."
Levy begins his new role in August.
