ITV News head of output Cristina Nicolotti Squires named editor of 5 News

By Press Gazette

ITV news head of output Cristina Nicolotti Squires has been named by ITN as the new editor of Channel 5 News.

She replaces Geoff Hill, who is leaving to join ITV News and has been editor of Channel 5 News since 2011 when ITN won the contract back from Sky.

Chief executive of ITN John Hardie said: "Cristina is an incredible programme-maker behind some of the most acclaimed ITN-produced output in recent years including the Royal Wedding and Diamond Jubilee specials for ITV. Having already clocked up almost 20 years at ITN, Cristina will bring a wealth of experience to this role and build on the fantastic work done by Geoff and his team since we began producing Channel 5 News again last year. I look forward to her flourishing in one of the most coveted editorships in TV news.”

Nicolotti Squires began her journalism career in print before moving to Thames Television News and then London Weekend Television. After joining ITN in 1994 she became a national news editor for ITV News rising to head of home news.

In her current role, she is responsible for all production staff in ITV News. She will start her new job in the next few weeks.
