An academic who has written best-selling books about economics has been appointed economics editor of ITV News.
Noreena Hertz is best known for non-fiction titles The Silent Takeover, IOU: The Debt Threat and Eyes Wide Open, which have been published in 22 countries.
She will join the line-up of experts – including political editor Robert Peston – providing news, comment and analysis across ITV’s full range of news programmes, appearing frequently on the nightly 10pm news bulletin.
Her appointment is said to be part of a plan by ITV to bring in more personality-led coverage. The appointment appears to be her first full-time journalism job.
Of her new role, Hertz said: “I’m thrilled to be joining ITV News (…) at such an important time in the lead up to and aftermath of the EU Referendum. It’s an amazing team of experts with a distinctive voice and I can’t wait to get started.”
She will lead all economics coverage, reporting and analysing the challenges of the UK economy and development of the day in the UK and international markets.
During her career she has advised world leaders and CEOs on economic, geopolitical and technological trends and business decisions. She most recently published research focused on the future impact on the economy and democracy of “Generation K” (people aged 14 to 21-year-olds).

She has a Phd from Cambridge University and is currently an honorary professor at University College London.
