Disgraced TV presenter Stuart Hall and his former employer the BBC are facing at least 17 civil claims from women he is alleged to have sexually assaulted.
Hall was jailed for 15 months in June after admitting to indecently assaulting 13 girls in the 1960s, ‘70s and ‘80s.
It was thought that a number of the 83-year-old It’s A Knockout presenter’s victims were seeking damages over the assaults. But law firm Pannone, which is acting for all the women involved, confirmed that at least some of the cases related to incidents for which Hall did not admit guilt
“We are instructed by 17 people who allege that they were abused by Hall,” said Alan Collins, a partner at Pannone. “Some of those were part of the criminal proceedings.
Six women are suing the BBC and Hall jointly, while 11 are acting only against Hall.
Those taking action against the corporation are doing so because Hall is alleged to have abused them while working for the BBC or on its premises.
The BBC said it was “appalled by the disgraceful actions” of Hall but said it could not comment on these allegations.
