Former CNN International and BBC News executive Chris Cramer has joined Thomson Reuters as global editor of multimedia for Reuters News.
Cramer, who retired from his role as CNN International vice president and managing director last year, will be based in New York and answer to Reuters editor-in-chief David Schlesinger.
Cramer began his broadcasting careers at the BBC, leaving after 20 years in 1996 when he was head of newsgathering.
Reuters News said he would use his 40 years of experience to ‘drive innovative multimedia projects across all Reuters News bureaux worldwide”.
The expansion of Reuters’s multimedia journalism has been a key aim in recent years: its journalists have been experimenting with the use of mobile phones and ran a daily TV show from the Davos Economic Forum earlier this year.
Last week Reuters picked up an Online News Association award in Washington for its Bearing Witness documentary on Iraq, which used the agency’s extensive archive, the personal testimony of Reuters journalists and an interactive timeline to mark the fifth anniversary of the invasion as well as pay tribute to the 132 journalists killed in the conflict.
