Broadcaster John Humphrys today paid tribute to his brother, sports journalist Bob, who has died.
Mr Humphrys, 56, passed away with his family at his bedside last night.
He was a familiar face on television in Wales having presented sports coverage on BBC news programme Wales Today for 20 years until his retirement earlier this year.
On the BBC news website his brother John, presenter of Radio 4’s Today programme, said: “He was a great journalist and a great man and we will all miss him so much.”
BBC Wales controller Menna Richards said: “Bob Humphrys made a huge contribution to BBC Wales over many years in a wide range of programming.
“First as a current affairs journalist but also as someone who got to the heart of the sporting world that’s so important in Wales.
“He combined great knowledge and enthusiasm with humour and wit.
“Bob had an unmistakable and distinctive style that brought him a huge following throughout Wales.”
The married father-of-three, who lived in Cardiff, revealed he had lung cancer, despite having never smoked, in an article for the Daily Mail in June about receiving his diagnosis.
