Sky News is launching a new two-hour weekday evening news show hosted by former political editor Adam Boulton and Sarah Hewson.
Sky News tonight will run from 7-9pm, from 1 September, and feature what the broadcaster describes as “pioneering social media cross-over”.
Sky said today in a release that the new show will be “a home” for the channel’s specialist broadcasting team including: political editor Faisal Islam, economics editor Ed Conway and social affairs editor Afua Hirsch
It said in a statement that they will “bring a brand new, forensic analysis of the day’s major national and international news using new technology, data journalism and cutting-edge digital media tools.
“They will bring exclusive stories, break news lines, and offer their expert insight into the latest news taking place on their beat.”
Sky said that Sky News Tonight will also “have comprehensive parallel output on social media, where users will be able to view – and engage with – a host of extra content that will follow, complement and enhance the live TV output, in real time”.
The programme will go head to head with Channel 4 News (which is broadcast from 7 to 7.55pm on weekdays, and then again on Channel 4+1).
Head of Sky News John Ryley said: “Sky News Tonight will not only showcase the best of the channel’s journalism but also offer a platform to delve further into the stories of the day incorporating digital components to better illustrate and explain.
“This will be a high production show determined by a serious news agenda. I wish Adam, Sarah and the team all the best.”
