Times editorial director Emma Tucker has been named as deputy editor of the paper.
Her appointment follows the departure of Keith Blackmore in August who had been deputy editor of the paper since 2008.
Tucker, 46, is a former Weekend editor of the FT who has been with The Times since 2008.
Here is the announcement from News UK:
Emma joined The Times in 2007 as Associate Features Editor and was made Editor of Times2 after just a year. She remained in the role for five years before becoming Editorial Director in 2012.
Says John Witherow, Editor of The Times: “Emma was the natural candidate for this role; she is an exceptional journalist and has an in-depth understanding of the commercial aspect to newspaper publishing and how best to integrate it with editorial.”
Emma joined The Times from the Financial Times where she started her career as a graduate trainee eventually becoming Editor of the Weekend FT. During her career with the FT, Emma spent four years as UK Economics Reporter before moving to Brussels in order to cover the European Union. After a stint in Berlin, where she wrote features, Emma returned to the UK in 2001 as Property Editor.
Says Emma: “I am delighted to have been made Deputy Editor. The Times is home to some of the industry’s most talented people and I look forward to continuing to work with them in growing the success of our great newspaper.”
Emma, 46, went to school in East Sussex and New Mexico, then studied PPE at Oxford University.
