A memorial service in honour of tabloid columnist Peter Tory will be held on 18 April at St Bride's Church Fleet Street.
The former columnist for the Daily Express, Daily Star and Daily Mirror died of cancer in October 2012 at the age of 73.
The service will be filled with music and prayers, as well as readings by Tory’s closest friends, including his partner Jacqueline Govier, Financial Times feature writer Arnie Wilson and former editor of the Daily Mirror Mike Molloy.
Extracts of Tory’s columns – famous for their “anarchic humour,” sly journalistic references and inclusion of both the trivial and the important – will be read at the service. Poems, including a Shakespearean sonnet and the poem High Flight (in honour of Tory's love of flying) will also be read out.
The service, which starts at 11.30am, will end with a collection for cancer research and support charities. Macmillan has commissioned a garden in memory of Tory to be designed and exhibited this summer at Hampton Court and at Gardening Scotland, in Edinburgh.
