Raj Mannick has been appointed as head of sport at Yahoo Sport UK, leaving his current role as head of sport and digital at ITN.
Mannick spent time as a sports reporter at BBC before moving to ITN in 2011 where he initially worked as a broadcast journalist.
He will start at Yahoo UK in May, ahead of a busy summer schedule that includes the World Cup, Tour de France, Wimbledon and the Ryder Cup.
Mannick will help spearhead Yahoo’s coverage of the World Cup with post-game reaction, expert opinions, stats, figures, live updates and breaking news.
Mannick said: “I’m delighted to join Yahoo UK’s growing editorial team at such a pivotal time in the sporting calendar.
“I’m looking forward to driving Yahoo Sport UK’s original journalism, coverage and analysis around these events, keeping Yahoo’s millions of sports fans around the world up to date on the latest.”
The appointment comes at a time when Yahoo UK is investing in original journalism, the company said.
Yahoo recently appointed Luke James, formerly of Political Scrapbook, as Brussels correspondent, and Sajid Shaikh from The Guardian as Yahoo Finance’s digital production editor.
It has also recruited two new video producers based in London.
Nicholas Petche, Yahoo UK editor-in-chief, said: “I’m thrilled to welcome Raj to our talented team of journalists at Yahoo UK.
“I’m excited to see how Raj will bring his creativity and strategic mindset to the table, drive further collaboration across the platform and create even more of the innovative content our audience have come to expect from Yahoo.”
