NUJ deputy John Fray set to retire

By Press Gazette

John Fray has announced he is to retire as deputy general secretary of the National Union of Journalists.

Speaking at a finance committee meeting he said he will leave in May when he is close to statutory retirement age.

A timetable for the appointment of Fray’s successor will be announced at the National Executive’s meeting ahead of the Annual Delegates Meeting on 3 April.

The union’s freelance organiser John Toner, broadcast organiser Paul McLaughlin, and current president Michelle Stanistreet are all thought to be in the running to succeed Fray.
