News Corp: Discussions ongoing over digital role for Rebekah Brooks, but no job currently exists

By Dominic Ponsford

Investigative website Exaro is reporting that Rebekah Brooks is set to return to The Sun as head of its digital operation.

But News Corp has played down the story saying discussions between Brooks and News Corp are ongoing – but no job for her currently exists.

Brooks visited the News UK offices last week.

Exaro quotes unnamed "well-placed sources" saying former News International chief executive Brooks is being lined up for this role.

Brooks resigned from News International in 2011 in the wake of the hacking scandal. Last year she was found not-guilty of conspiracy to hack phones.

The Financial Times reported last month that Brooks was returning to News Corp has head of its social media news agency Storyful.

Brooks was editor of The Sun for eight years from 2003.

A spokesperson for News Corp said: "Discussions with Rebekah Brooks are ongoing, and focused on a potential new digital business for News Corp, but it's premature to speculate about the details of a position that does not yet exist."
