New job lures Barlow back to Oz

By Press Gazette

Press Gazette’s events director, Fran Barlow, is leaving the magazine to return to her native Australia.

A former director of The Guardian Edinburgh International Television Festival, Barlow joined Press Gazette in January 2006 to oversee a range of events including the British Press Awards.

She joined Press Gazette from the national charity the Media Trust, where she was marketing and business development director.

She was also commercial director at the Institute of Fundraising in London and was in charge of the Edinburgh Television Festival for three years from 1998 to 2001, following two years as festival director of the Cardiff Animation Festival.

Having lived in London for 20 years, Barlow is now returning to Sydney to be with family. She is to join the Walkley Foundation, which works to promote the interests of professional and ethical journalism in Australia.

As programme manager, Barlow will be working on the Walkley Awards – the Australian equivalent of the British Press Awards – as well as developing new events.
