Former editor of The Daily Telegraph's Mandrake diary column Tim Walker is joining The Mail on Sunday as a writer at large.
Walker took voluntary redundancy from The Daily Telegraph at Christmas and has since focused on broadcasting as well as writing columns for several magazines and an election diary called The Heckler for the Daily Mirror.
Mail on Sunday editor Geordie Greig said: "We’re very excited to have Tim on board – he’ll bring his considerable showbusiness experience and energy across the board – primarily to the news pages, but also features and diary, where he will work to our Girl About Town – Charlotte Griffiths, the best diary editor in the business."
Walker said: "I've seen in my career how newspapers have their shining moments – times when they really blaze a trail and everyone wants to work for them – and there is clearly that sense of exceptionalism now about The Mail on Sunday under Geordie. I am proud that he is giving me the chance to join the amazing team he has gathered around him."
On his short foray into red-top journalism, he said: "I loved the Mirror and had a lot of fun there, but it was always agreed it was going to be a cameo appearance.
"I don't think I would be able to work for a Labour-supporting newspaper now Jeremy Corbyn is leading the party, not with a straight face, anyway."
