Former News of the World editor Colin Myler leaves New York Daily News

By David Knowles

Colin Myler, the British editor-in-chief of the New York Daily News, is reported to be leaving his post to return to London.

In a memo staff were told that Myler was leaving the daily title and returning to the United Kingdom for family reasons.

The New York Times quotes the memo as saying: “The sole reason is one that you might be well aware, Colin and his wife, Carol, are yearning to be reunited with their family and four grandchildren.”

Myler was the editor of the News of the World from 2007 to the closure of the paper following the phone-hacking scandal in 2011. He joined the New York tabloid in 2012.

Myler started his career at the Catholic Pictorial and moved on to work for The Sun, the Daily Mail, Sunday People, Today and the Sunday Mirror.

His deputy at the NYDN Jim Rich is taking over as editor.

According to the New York Times, Myler is not retiring but his next role is unknown.
