Business start-up award for news agency founder

Former Daily Mail journalist Natasha Courtenay-Smith has won the Women in Business award from the website StartUp.co.uk for her news agency Talktothepress.

The agency was launched in May last year and last month celebrated selling its 300th story.

Courtenay-Smith said she was thrilled to see off competition from almost 300 other entries in the Women in Business category of the annual StartUps awards.

Stories sold by Talktothepress include that of mother-of-three Sarah Mitchard, who was left scarred for life after complications during plastic surgery on her stomach. That sory was sold to Now, Woman and Real People magazines.

June Redman used Talktothepress to sell her story of falling pregnant after being raped at the age of 14 and then being reunited with her son 40 years later to the Daily Mail and Woman’s Own. And Katie Hill sold her story about being the youngest person in the UK to have a gastric band fitted, at the age of 14, to the Sunday Mirror, Woman’s Own and New.
