NUJ to lodge complaint over Galloway count

By Press Gazette

Dozens of journalists were disappointed after being turned away from one of the most contentious vote counts of the election.
According to Tower Hamlets Council it had more
than 100 applications to watch the Bethnal Green and Bow constituency
count where Labour’s Oona King was ousted by anti-war Respect candidate
George Galloway.
The council communications department decided to
limit numbers by allowing only one national press photographer, from
the Press Association, to be present at the count held in the East
Wintergarden, Canary Wharf.
National press reporters and several TV crews were allowed to attend as well as photographers from two local papers.
Both the NUJ and the Chartered Institute of Journalists have lodged official complaints over the matter.
According to Tower Hamlets Council some 60 journalists were given accreditation to cover the event.
