Derbyshire journalist Jim Brennan has launched an email newsletter for the million people in the UK aged between 79 and 90.
Brennan launched Eighties United to coincide with his 86th birthday on 14 January.
Brennan said: ‘This is part of my lifetime focus as a reporter on public policy and fairness, and I’m content with a not-for-profit operation, provided my costs (including reporting, with travel to conferences etc) are covered by subscriptions.’Eighties United is one of eight newsletters run by Brennan throughout the East Midlands, including Derby, Leicester, Lincoln, Nottingham and a national newsletter, the UK Guardian, as well as his website, the Global Journalism Review.
Brennan’s newsletters take a quirky look at local and national politics and the journalism industry. If Eighties United is successful, he aims to transform it into a website.
Brennan has worked as a freelance columnist and contributor for the Derby Evening Telegraph for 20 years, after a career working in the nationals.
