Trevor Barker has won the Royal Yachting Association’s 2004 National
Communications award for producing Wavelength, the best yachting
newsletter in the country.
The former News International chief
copytaker took over the editorship of the Channel Sailing Club’s
bi-monthly magazine a year ago. The 24-page publication beat some stiff
opposition to pick up the award, sponsored by the RYA in association
with Yachting Monthly at this year’s London Boat Show.
Barker said: “I am really chuffed at achieving this award as I don’t think I’ve ever won anything in my life.
Clearly I spent many years in Fleet Street in the wrong job!”
The
Channel Sailing Club, of which Barker is vice-commodore, is based in
Epsom and has one of the largest memberships for any land-locked yacht
club in the country.
