View From papers saved by local hotel owners

By Daniel Macadam

Dorset-based newspaper company, View From Publishing, has been taken over by local hotel owners, Jerry and Rosemary Ramsdale.

At the end of December last year one of the View From papers, View From Blackdown Hills, was bought by Tindle Newspapers, but the other titles were still in danger of closing down. Just before Christmas View From Publishing, launched by journalist Philip Evans five years ago, filed its intention to go into administration.

The View From series has free weekly titles on five Dorset towns, including Lyme Regis where the papers are based, as well as two Somerset towns and the monthly Sid Vale title in Devon.

Jerry and Rosemary Ramsdale have owned a holiday home and run a hotel in Lyme Regis for over two years, and this is their first venture into newspaper publishing.

Ramsdale also runs a magazine publishing company in St Albans and part owns a fleet vehicle magazine.

He said about the View From papers: ‘They are excellent community publications, very popular with the readers and well respected by advertisers.

‘Although these are difficult times for local newspapers I believe there is an excellent future for community publications like the View.”
