Video: Sun TV campaign for Help for Heroes charity

By Dominic wireposts

The Sun today launches an advertising campaign which spearheads a new £20m fundraising drive for its Help for Heroes charity.

The charity was launched in October 2007 to support wounded soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan and was shortly afterwards adopted by The Sun. So far it has raised more than £19m.

The Sun has produced a TV ad highlighting some of the fundraising initiatives it has encouraged with a voice-over by Johnn Vegas (see above) – and there is also print and online advertising.

The paper has launched a dedicated area of its website www.thesun.co.uk/heroes to encourage people to get involved with the charity.

And the paper is working with eBay to launch an ‘Auction for Heroes” on 6 April which will include items donated by celebrities such as Jeremy Clarkson, Simon Cowell and John Terry.

Members of the public will also be encouraged to donate auction items for the charity.

News Group Newspapers marketing director Allan MacCaskill said: ‘The £19m raised so far for the Help for Heroes charity has been fantastic. This initiative is not only aimed at thanking those involved so far, but also encourages further involvement.

‘The aim is to raise a further £20m to help build a series of Recovery Centres for the charity. In a recent YouGov Survey, conducted for The Sun of 37 leading brands, when asked which brand people feel looks to make a positive difference to society, The Sun came out top. Campaigning for such important issues that really matter to the people of Britain is a vital part of what The Sun stands for.”
