VIDEO: Julian Assange stands up for whistleblowers saying leaks could have stopped Iraq war

By Dominic wireposts

Wikileaks founder Julian Assange spoke at a Frontline Club/New Statesman event on Saturday arguing in favour of a motion stating that whistleblowers make the world a safer place.

He said that the US embassy cables had spawned an anti-corruption movement in India and he ventured that a wider and earlier leak of criticisms levelled against the Government dossier making the case for war with Iraq might have prevented that conflict.

Assange’s comments echo those made by Guardian editor Alan Rusbridger at the Press Awards last week, when he said that the leaked US embassy cables had helped foster revolution in the Arab world.
