Mark Hollinshead, managing director of Trinity Mirror’s national newspapers, is a leading candidate to replace David Montgomery at European publisher Mecom, according to The Sunday Times.
The News International paper reported yesterday (the link is paywall protected) that Hollinshead is on a shortlist prepared by headhunter Russell Reynolds, which is running the search for a new chief executive for Mecom.
The reported remarks from “insiders” which suggested that the main hurdle that could prevent Hollinshead landing the role is his lack of business experience in the Netherlands, where most of Mecom’s business is located.
Trinity Mirror declined to comment on the Sunday Times story.
Before establishing Mecom in 2000, Montgomery cemented a reputation as a controversial figure from his time as chief executive of Mirror Group Newspapers – which is now Trinity Mirror’s national newspaper division – when he oversaw an extreme cost-cutting programme.
Last week the Financial Times reported that Montgomery was to leave as chief executive of the European media group in January following a shareholder revolt.
