A Times journalist has admitted failing to attribute part of a story about Steve Jobs.
A blogger for US based magazine The Atlantic pointed out the similarity between two pieces about Jobs last week. An article by David Rose entitled ‘Doctors fear the return of Steve Jobs’ pancreatic cancer’appeared two days after a similar piece by Philip Elmer-DeWitt in Fortune.
A writer describing himself as Times journalist Mike Harvey contacted the Atlantic and admitted to adding the lines to Rose’s story. He said:
“I added the paragraphs (and made a few other editing changes) in the middle of writing another major piece for the newspaper against a very tight deadline. (The perils of writing for a London newspaper from the West Coast.)
“It was done in a real hurry and I meant to put the proper attribution in but failed to do so before I pinged the email off.”
