Times investigations prompt Israel phosphorous climbdown

By Dominic wireposts

British Press Awards Newspaper of the Year The Times notes a big victory for old-fashioned investigative journalism today over its revelations that Israel used banned white phosphorous shells against civilians.

The Times photographed stockpiles of the shells in Israel and compared serial numbers to those of munitions used in attacks on Gaza.

The Israeli Defence Force officially denied using the weapons but has now admitted withdrawing them in the face of “media buzz”. Well done The Times.
