The Telegraph Media Group – The Daily Telegraph, Sunday Telegraph, and Telegraph.co.uk – has appointed three new sports writers.

Ian Chadband, new chief sports correspondent, joins from London’s Evening Standard.

He is a former Sports Journalists’ Association feature writer of the year and has also won sports story of the year for an investigation into corrupt international athletics officials.

Jason Burt, new deputy football correspondent, writing for The Daily Telegraph, joins from The Independent where he has worked for more than 10 years on London football clubs.

Gavin Mairs, new rugby news correspondent, joins from the Belfast Telegraph. He was previously at the Yorkshire Post for two years.

Mairs has won a number of industry awards, including the IPR sports journalist of the year for Northern Ireland in 2005, Yorkshire sports writer of the year in 2000, and IPR newcomer of the year for Northern Ireland in 1998.

David Bond, sports editor at The Daily Telegraph, said: “I am delighted to be making these appointments.

‘They are all excellent journalists and will enhance the Telegraph’s sports pages as we continue to deliver first rate coverage.”
