Three appointments at Financial Times

By owenamos

The Financial Times has made three senior editorial appointments.

Brian Groom has become UK business and employment editor, and associate editor, after four years as comment and analysis editor. Groom has also been editor of the Europe edition, political editor, and regional editor.

He will continue to write his weekly Notebook column.

Caroline Daniel has become comment and analysis editor, and assistant editor. She was previously comment editor, and White Hose correspondent, based in Washington DC.

Martin Sandbu has joined the paper as economics leader writer. He has a PhD in political economy and government from Harvard University.

Ed Balls MP, secretary of state for children, schools, and families, also started his career as economics leader writer, from 1990 to 1994.

Earlier this month, the FT announced it was making 80 staff redundant, including 20 journalists. A subsequent protest was attended by Tony Benn.
