The last ever Sun newspaper was printed at NI’s Wapping headquarters in east London on Friday, ending more than 20 years of in-house printing for the paper.
The Sun has gone full-colour from today, thanks to three new printing plants costing parent company News International some £600m.
The Sun was first printed at Wapping after a bitter and lengthy industrial dispute with printing unions, heralding the start of the computerisation of newspaper production.
Associated Newspapers, owner of the Mail titles and the Evening Standard, also moved to a new full-colour printing printing plant this month, allowing Mail on Sunday editor Peter Wright to usher in a colourful new redesign for his paper.
