Tesco is seeking “special damages” for “loss of profits” from The Guardian over its story alleging that the supermarket giant avoided paying £1 billion in tax. According to a High Court writ seen by the Telegraph, Tesco is claiming that The Guardian published the allegations despite knowing that they were “false, malicious and defamatory”.
According to the writ, Tesco chairman David Reid contacted Guardian Media Group chairman Paul Myners in December to try to shut the story down angering Guardian editor Alan Rusbridger.
