Telegraph Media Group revealed plans to bolster its video content online – including supplying journalists with a “backpack device” to stream content.
TMG today announced a “substantial new investment” in live streaming facilities that would allow it to broadcast live video footage on an “unprecedented scale”.
Those new facilities include a “backpack device allowing high quality live video to be sent over 3G networks”, a permanent circuit from BT Tower, and feeds from the Associated Press.
TMG’s head of video James Weeks said: “Digital consumers expect a first class video service, and The Telegraph is leading the field. We’ve been quick to recognise the opportunities that new technology presents.
“Now, we can follow developing stories like never before. The changes we have made to our studio will enable us to augment live video with expert analysis and informed opinion from the finest team of journalists and commentators in the business.”
AP’s new Video Hub launched in beta last April and TMG is one of the first customers. The 24/7 live news stream allows access to breaking news events as they happen, anywhere in the world. Customers also have the ability to book and schedule live coverage of planned news events on an ad-hoc basis.
