By admin

The Sunday Times has launched a new one-year scholarship in memory of Marie Colvin, the foreign correspondent killed by Syrian government forces during a shell attack in February.

The paper announced yesterday (behind paywall) that it was on the lookout for future foreign correspondents with ‘practical experience of print journalism and digital media and a proven interest in foreign affairs”.

Candidates may be of any nationality but must have excellent English and the right to work in the UK. The upper age limit on starting the scholarship is 26 and the paid scholarship  will include three months working on the foreign desk of The Sunday Times, followed by six months spread between News Review, Business and Magazine sections in both print and digital formats.

The final three months is on the foreign desk.

An article on its website said:

A working trip overseas may also be included. This is a salaried position. The scheme runs from 1 January 2013 to 31 December 2013.

Applications should include writing samples (maximum of 3) and should be addressed to Kathleen Herron, Deputy Managing Editor, The Sunday Times, 3 Thomas More Square, London, E98 1ST.

Envelopes must be marked “MARIE COLVIN SCHOLARSHIP”. Applications must be received no later than 30 September 2012.
