Sun columnist Kelvin MacKenzie defects to Daily Mail

By admin

The Sun columnist Kelvin MacKenzie is leaving the paper to join the Dail Mail, according to a report in The Guardian.

MacKenzie is reported to have told the newspaper’s owners News International about his decision to join the paper 10 days ago.

MacKenzie, who was editor of the tabloid between 1981 to 1994, told The Guardian:

I owe everything to the Sun. The Sun owes me nothing. I will miss the readers – I felt, probably conceitedly, that I had an umbilical cord to their issues and their thought processes.

But all good things come to an end and I very much look forward to taking my rather disgraceful column to the Daily Mail.”

He declined to say how much he would be earning as a columnist at the Mail.

MacKenzie became a Sun colmnist in 2005 when he replaced Richard Littlejohn, who also left the newspaper to join the Mail.
