Suggestions sought on how PCC Editors’ Code of Practice can be improved

By Dominic wireposts

The Editors’ Code of Practice Committee has asked for suggestions about how the Code – which underpins the work of the PCC – can be improved.

The annual review comes at a time when the phone-hacking scandal and the Leveson Inquiry have put the future of self-regulation in question. While Editors’ Code has not come in for major criticism, it is likely to be subject to come in for as much scrutiny as the PCC itself.

The Code Committee, which is chared by Daily Mail editor Paul Dacre, has invited submissions from “the public, civil society and the industry on how the Code might be revised to improve the system of self-regulation of the press, of which it is an essential component”.

Suggestions should be made by 31 January 2012 to Ian Beales, Code Commmitee Secretary, PO Box 235, Stonehouse, Glos GL10 3UF. Email: ianbeales@me.com.
