Simon Cowell X Factor voting complaint against Heat resolved by PCC

By admin

Pop music promoter Simon Cowell has resolved a complaint against Heat magazine after complaining via solicitors Carter Ruck to the Press Complaints Commission about a story regarding his TV show X-Factor.

Here are the full details from the PCC:

Complaint:

Simon Cowell complained to the Press Complaints Commission through Carter-Ruck solicitors that an article in the magazine was inaccurate.  He said it was not the case – as claimed by the magazine – that he knew, after each X Factor show, how many votes had been cast for each contestant.  In fact, he did not know how many votes had been won by the contestants until after the final.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated publication of the following apology, printed alongside a photograph of the complainant:

On 16 November 2010, we suggested that Simon Cowell knows after each show which X Factor contestants get the most votes each week.  We now accept that this statement was untrue and apologise to Mr Cowell and Syco Entertainment, the company responsible for the show, for any offence that may have been caused by any suggestion that the competition may be unfair.  We accept Mr Cowell’s assurance that he did not know the number of votes cast for each act until after the final.
