Shutterstock to distribute Associated Press daily photos to its UK customers

By Freddy Mayhew

Stock photo provider Shutterstock has struck a deal with the Associated Press that will see it distribute the agency’s daily photos from around the world for licence to UK customers.

The agreement comes into effect from this week, and will result in Shutterstock subscribers having access to thousands of images a day from Associated Press (AP) photographers, including archive photos.

It comes after a similar deal was struck in the US.

Ben Pfeifer, senior vice president of business development at Shutterstock, said: “This extended deal with AP allows us to reach new parts of the market we haven’t yet been able to access and acknowledges the strong demand for Shutterstock’s editorial content world-wide.

“Having worked with AP for over nine months now, we’re looking forward to our continued relationship with the world’s most prominent provider of news content.

Alwyn Lindsey, AP’s vice president of sales for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, added: “Shutterstock has deeply impressed us with their continual innovation, that has transformed editorial distribution.

“By working with Shutterstock in the UK, we will be able to bring our content to new market sector. Our global network of photographers will continue to deliver timely content from red carpets to runways, conflicts to elections, shaping the way we see the world.”

The AP collection is included in the subscription level for Shutterstock Premier and Rex/Shutterstock customers.

AP boasts than 30m images and has been operating as a news and images agency for 170 years.
