Romanian police have closed their investigation into a ITV News at Ten report on the underage sex trade in Romania, and have ruled that ITN was “misled” by a prostitute who claimed she was 14.
ITN has stood by its report, in which journalist Chris Rodgers describes how he “bought” what he thought was a 14-year-old girl from sex traffickers. The girl, Monica Gingha, was later interviewed by police and claimed she was 25 and had been kidnapped.
“From our point of view, the investigation is closed,” a police spokeswoman said. “We have proved that what ITN reported was not true.”
