Press Awards 2012: Times leads the way with 24 nominations

By Press Gazette

The Times leads the nominations league table at this year’s Press Awards – followed by the Daily Telegraph and Daily Mail.

The Times has 24 nominations, The Daily Telegraph has 20 and the Daily Mail has 19, followed by The Sunday Times (17), The Guardian (16), The Daily Mirror (11) and The Independent (11).

There are 29 categories at The Press Awards and winners will be announced at a dinner at the Lancaster London Hotel, Lancaster Gate, on Thursday 7 March, 2013.

The awards are organised on behalf of the industry by the Society of Editors. Proceeds will help to fund the Society of Editors’ campaigning for press freedom and the Journalists’ Charity.

Chairman of the judges Bob Satchwell, executive director of the Society of Editors said: “These really are the best of the best. The judges have faced a huge task studying the rich output from the whole range of Britain’s diverse national newspapers.

"It is also a wonderful privilege because few people can see it all every day or every week. I defy anyone to find a greater range or higher standards of journalism.”
